A woman who was jailed Australian citizenship in the United Arab Emirates after pleading rape filed a lawsuit against their own country. The lawsuit filed because the Australian embassy was notwarned that he could be jailed for reporting this.
Reporting from the Associated Press, Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 29-year-old woman who this unnamed jailed for eight months due todrink alcohol and had sex with a man who was not a legitimatepartner.
This happened after he told the officer that she was raped by her fellow employees of a hotel in Fujairah in 2008. After the rape, this woman tried to contact the Australian embassy in Dubai to ask for help.
But he said, the embassy does not tell him to report such things tomake it hold.
This woman sent a complaint to the Australian embassy throughthe Brisbane Supreme Court today. In addition, he also sent acomplaint to the hotel scene of the crime for failing to protectemployees.
"The lack of information provided by the embassy to make one ofits citizens had to go to jail. If my client knows that the reportedsexual assault to make it in prison, he would have left the country,"said Michelle James, the female lawyer.
When questioned, the Australian Foreign Ministry declined to comment on this. (umi)
