China Send Warships to Spratly Islands

BEIJING - Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianchao said China was sending warships to the disputed area around the Spratly Islands.

But China does not plan to conduct a military activity there.

China did not violate his agreement with ASEAN on the issue struggle in the South China Sea region are suspected to have large oil reserves.

"We have no desire to occupy one of the islands there, we just did a survey there," said Mr Liu Jianchao, quoted by GMA on Thursday (06/09/2011).

He also stated, the U.S. Government will not intervene in the South China Sea issue and will let those who claim the region to solve their own problems by peaceful means.

Currently, the Philippines worried about the increased presence and military activities of China in the Spratly Islands which is also claimed by Brunei, Taiwan, Vietnam and Malaysia.

The Chinese government still thought that the South China Sea are part of sovereignty for the territory formerly part of the Tang Dynasty in the 7th century. (RHS)
